This week's lectures on Robotics and Art made me rethink how I saw modern technology as a form of artwork. Beforehand, I would usually only see the connection of modern technology and robots to math and science. Through Walter Benjamin, he emphasizes how the industrial reproduction of art will affect the aura; hence art will no longer be authentic as it once was. However, Douglas takes a different approach to Benjamin's thesis and argues that "aura" will still continue to exist depending how the people view the artwork. I agree with Douglas because modern technology will continue to improve will will develop new forms of art.
Prof. Vesna discussed more into detail how this has became common in one of the most popular films. While learning about the connection between robots and art, I thought about the film I, Robot. In this film, there was a development of human-like robots who could perform tasks however, their emotions were not the same as humans. This posed a question since as technology seems to be improving, will robots be able to stimulate the same emotions like humans one day.

The Marvel Franchise was also another connection I made to this week's topics. The films were based on comic books which can be how we originally though was art; the comic books were hand drawn with different colors and shapes. However, as technology developed, we were able to see these comic books come to life and create this huge empire. One movie that can make this connection is Iron Man. We watch how Tony Stark develops all these sketches to develop the Iron Man suit; this is an artistic viewpoint to the development of his robotic suit.

I liked how you express that you are open minded about art being able to be better with the introduction of technology. I agree with you about how art can improve with technology. I like how you brought up the connection with marvel and art. I also like how you brought up I robot, I think that movie shows how far technology can go. Overall I think your blog was really good.
Week 9: Science + Art Science and art are usually not compared to one another but through the creative aspect of art, it influences to a scientific breakthrough. Scientists develop hypothesis on certain research topics they wish to find answers to. Albert Einstein even stated how science and art "tend to coalesce in esthetics, plasticity, and from" as well as emphasizing how the "greatest scientists are always artists." There has been research about life in other places besides Earth throughout the past decades. Scientists expanded their research by sendings animals out into space like Laika, a Moscow street dog. Soviet rocket scientists wanted to send animals into space to have a better knowledge as to how it would affect humans in terms of launch and other aspects related to space travel. Laika was sent with other stray dogs on November 1957. Laika had the necessities to survive but the issue came due to the satellite....
Week 2: Math + Art I have taken art classes since a very young age but I did not grasp to the creativity side of art but more towards the math aspect. In order to draw, art teachers would express how it's all about lines and shapes which did help me out to create the drawings. However, through the readings and lectures I was intrigued how not only math but science also has a correlation to art. Flatland by Edwin A. Abott was very descriptive and allowed me to envision how geometry is connected to art as he describes how all these shapes are always present. It is also written from a perspective of a shape which made me intrigued even more because I was now seeing the world as geometric shapes. Through the use of geometry, he is able to discuss two different societies which is easier for a reader to imagine in their heads while reading it. Emily Lynch Victory connects her passion with math to her artwork...
Week 7: Neuroscience and Art We have explored different areas in which art is performed but we have recently focused on the human body such as neuroscience. In Professor Vesna's Lecture 3, we are informed on the impact that drugs have to one's brain which results in a change in perception as well as to their creativity. Psychedelic drugs are able to alter one's perception and cognitive processes like their emotions. Dr Timothy Leary was a psychologist and writer who advocated fo psychedelic drugs as he used LSD. Through his use of LSD, he gained his philosophy of finding one's true self through the use of psychedelic drugs carefully and responsibly. His saying was "turn on, tune in, drop out" which is to connect with your internal feelings and thoughts and reflecting those feelings with the world around you. This correlated to the idea of consciousness as one is able to associate themselves with ...
